R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts is sponsoring
  its annual Cinco de Mayo parade and street festival in the Oak Cliff
  area of Dallas in May 2016; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting the arts and education, the
  Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts sponsors cultural events and funds
  scholarships in the community; and
         WHEREAS, Commemorating the victory of Mexican troops led by
  Texas-born General Ignacio Zaragoza over the French at the Battle
  of Puebla on May 5, 1862, the annual Oak Cliff Cinco de Mayo parade
  includes floats, marching bands, school groups, and other community
  participants; and
         WHEREAS, The celebration's street festival will feature
  performances by local musicians and dancers, as well as booths
  offering food and local merchandise and a Community Pavilion;
  proceeds from the festival will help support the coalition's
  scholarship fund; and
         WHEREAS, Drawing as many as 20,000 people every year, the Oak
  Cliff Cinco de Mayo parade and street festival is a highly
  anticipated event, bringing together neighbors and visitors to
  commemorate a vital moment in history and to share in the traditions
  of a rich and dynamic culture; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the 2016 Oak Cliff Coalition for the
  Arts Cinco de Mayo parade and street festival and extend to its
  organizers, participants, and visitors best wishes for a memorable
  and enjoyable day; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the coalition as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
