WHEREAS, The Oil Belt Little League Junior All-Stars achieved | ||
great distinction by becoming the U.S. Junior League Baseball World | ||
Series Champions and advancing to the world championship game at | ||
the 2022 Junior League Baseball World Series, held in August in | ||
Taylor, Michigan; and | ||
WHEREAS, A group of talented 14-and-under ballplayers from | ||
the Corpus Christi area, the Oil Belt Little League Junior | ||
All-Stars embarked on their journey to the U.S. title with a | ||
dominant performance at the Southwest Region Tournament in | ||
Albuquerque, New Mexico; the Oil Belt players outscored their | ||
opponents by a three-game total of 55-8 to win the tournament and | ||
claim the ballclub's first appearance in the Junior League World | ||
Series since 2014; and | ||
WHEREAS, In their opening world series contest on August 15, | ||
the Junior All-Stars hit two home runs and scored eight runs in the | ||
first two innings before going on to a 13-1 victory over Hawaii; | ||
taking the field in the next round against the East representatives | ||
from Keystone Little League in Pennsylvania, Oil Belt collected | ||
seven runs in the fifth inning for a 10-3 win and a berth in the U.S. | ||
championship game; that contest turned out to be a rematch against | ||
Keystone on August 20, and the Oil Belt squad held the lead from the | ||
first inning on, triumphing 12-4 for the national crown; the team | ||
then faced the Chinese Taipei squad on August 21 for the world | ||
championship; the Junior All-Stars turned in a valiant effort in | ||
the game but ultimately finished as runner-up; over the course of | ||
their outstanding summer campaign, the Oil Belt players scored a | ||
total of 216 runs while limiting their opponents to just 36; and | ||
WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Junior | ||
All-Stars benefited from the valuable contributions made by each | ||
member of the roster: Dallin DeBellas, Aiden Flores, Drayton | ||
Mitchell, Danny Acuña, Jaden Martinez, Collier Carroll, Jace | ||
Arriaga, Reese Rusher, Samuel Cecava, Jagger Batek, Lucas Saenz, | ||
Zaccariah Morales, and Blake Quinn; these determined athletes were | ||
ably guided by manager Daniel Saenz and coaches Nathan Mitchell and | ||
Brendon Saenz; and | ||
WHEREAS, The members of the Oil Belt Little League Junior | ||
All-Stars proudly represented their city and state in one of the | ||
premier showcases for youth athletics, and they will treasure their | ||
memories of this achievement for many years to come; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the Oil Belt Little League Junior | ||
All-Stars on becoming the 2022 U.S. Junior League Baseball World | ||
Series Champions and extend to the team's players and coaches | ||
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
