R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas is making a positive
  and lasting difference in the lives of countless young women in the
  San Antonio area and beyond; and
         WHEREAS, A chartered council of Girl Scouts of the USA, GSSWT
  is headquartered at the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center
  in San Antonio and serves nearly 18,500 Girl Scouts from 21 counties
  in Southwest Texas; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding nonprofit seeks to equip girls with
  the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders, encouraging
  them to maintain healthy lifestyles, care for the environment,
  study new technologies, and take pride in their country; with the
  help of a team of committed adult volunteers, GSSWT offers a variety
  of fun and educational activities and programs, including Camp
  Metro, a day camp at the West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center; the
  council also operates Camp La Jita, a facility along the Sabinal
  River, where scouts can enjoy stays of a week or longer; and
         WHEREAS, Partially supported through the sale of Girl Scout
  cookies, GSSWT is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the cookie
  program in 2017; now available from troops throughout the nation
  and even online, the first Girl Scout cookies made their debut in
  1917, when a troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, began selling homemade
  treats to raise money; over the succeeding years, the cookies
  became a cornerstone of the Girl Scout experience, one that not only
  provides financial support for vital initiatives and community
  service projects but also helps members acquire skills in
  entrepreneurship, goal setting, and teamwork; and
         WHEREAS, Inspiring young women to take charge of their
  destinies and effect positive change in the world, Girl Scouts of
  Southwest Texas is helping to foster a generation of engaged and
  thoughtful citizens, and it is indeed deserving of recognition for
  its efforts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas for
  enriching the lives of many young Texans and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
