R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Janis Sneed of Saint Jo has received the Outstanding
  Citizen Award for 2014 from the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Descended from some of the earliest settlers of the
  area, Janis Sneed has long been an advocate for preserving her
  community's rich history; as chair of the Montague County
  Historical Commission, she started the annual "Get to Know Montague
  County" bus tour and played a leading role in the success of the
  county's sesquicentennial in 2008; she also led the effort to get a
  Chisholm Trail historical marker placed in the Saint Jo town
  square, and she helped organize the first multicounty historical
  seminar in Texas in 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Sneed used some of her own money to help
  purchase and restore the historic Stonewall Saloon Building in
  Saint Jo, turning it into a museum full of artifacts and
  memorabilia, and she purchased another building on the town square
  to serve as a showcase for the work of local artisans; she has
  sponsored the monthly and yearly dinners of the Illinois Bend
  community and chaired its entries in the annual Saint Jo Parade, and
  she has been responsible for maintaining several historic
  cemeteries; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic woman has also served as the Saint Jo
  Chamber of Commerce representative to the Red River Valley Tourism
  Association of Texas and Oklahoma, and she has volunteered to staff
  the chamber's concession stand at the semi-annual Rednecks with
  Paychecks events; moreover, she has been active in preserving the
  county's environment and in protecting the rights of local property
  holders; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Sneed has earned accolades outside the
  community as well; she was associated with Blinn College for many
  years as a teacher, cosponsor of the Phi Theta Kappa honor
  fraternity, and director of student services, and in 1994, the
  student center banquet room was named in her honor and a scholarship
  was endowed in her name; in 2013, she was inducted into the Blinn
  College Hall of Honor; and
         WHEREAS, Janis Sneed's imagination, boundless energy, and
  deep commitment to her community have greatly benefited the people
  of Saint Jo and Montague County, and she may indeed take pride in
  this acknowledgement of appreciation from her many friends and
  neighbors; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Janis Sneed on her receipt of the
  2014 Outstanding Citizen Award from the Saint Jo Chamber of
  Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Sneed as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
