R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Eugene P. Toscano of San Antonio on February 23, 2023, at
  the age of 89; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Cleofas and Anastacio Toscano, Gene
  Toscano was born in San Antonio on June 8, 1933, and he grew up with
  the companionship of four brothers, Lionel, Joseph, John, and
  Henry; he graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1950 and
  received a music scholarship to attend St. Mary's University, where
  he earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1954; and
         WHEREAS, An accomplished trumpet player, Mr. Toscano played
  salsa and tropical music in downtown San Antonio during his youth,
  and he went on to participate in a nationwide tour with Rosita
  Fernandez and Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez; answering his nation's call
  to duty, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, and he played
  trumpet in the Fifth Army Band during his time stationed in Germany;
  to help support his family, he continued to play trumpet with a
  number of orchestras while attending St. Mary's University School
  of Law, and he obtained his law degree in 1961; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Toscano established the Gene Toscano, Inc., law
  firm in San Antonio in 1965, and over the course of his career as an
  attorney, he helped resolve thousands of legal disputes; he retired
  in 2018, after 57 years of service in the legal profession; along
  the way, he also worked as a real estate developer, political
  commentator, rancher, bar owner, boxing promoter, and tire store
  owner; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Toscano benefited from the
  love and support of his wife, Esther, with whom he shared a
  rewarding marriage that spanned nearly six decades; he took great
  pride in their 5 children, Marisa, Gina, Andrew, Patrick, and
  Monica, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family 11
  grandchildren; during his leisure time, he enjoyed horse racing,
  following baseball, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and he was
  passionate about music and salsa dancing; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Gene Toscano
  will always remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth,
  kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and they will forever hold
  him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eugene P. Toscano
  and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gene
  Toscano.
