R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. John E. Chapman III, superintendent of the Ennis
  Independent School District, has been named the 2017 Superintendent
  of the Year for Education Service Center Region 10; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Association of School Boards has sponsored
  this annual award to recognize local school district
  superintendents for their leadership since 1984; those receiving
  the regional-level designation are honored at the Texas Association
  of School Administrators/TASB annual convention and are eligible to
  be considered for selection as state Superintendent of the Year;
  and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman began his career in Lubbock as a teacher
  and coach; he went on to serve as a K-12 assistant principal, junior
  high school principal, and high school principal before assuming
  his first superintendent's post with Chillicothe ISD, which was
  named one of the best districts in the nation by U.S. News and World
  Report during his tenure; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, this veteran educator became
  superintendent for Comfort ISD, where he won the Gifted and
  Talented Administrator of the Year Award; in 2013, he was named
  Region 13 Superintendent of the Year and a state Superintendent of
  the Year finalist; he has served as superintendent of Ennis ISD
  since January 2014; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of McMurry University, Dr. Chapman holds
  a master's degree from Wayland Baptist University and an Ed.D. in
  educational leadership from Texas Tech University; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his impressive career, John Chapman has
  worked tirelessly in behalf of students, teachers, and parents, and
  he has contributed immeasurably to the advancement of public
  education in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. John E.
  Chapman III on being named Region 10 Superintendent of the Year and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Chapman as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
