WHEREAS, The Eighth Court of Appeals in El Paso County | ||
recently welcomed its third female justice, and an all-women panel | ||
now presides over the court for the first time since the court's | ||
establishment more than a century ago; and | ||
WHEREAS, On January 14, 2013, Justice Yvonne T. Rodriguez | ||
joined Chief Justice Ann Crawford McClure and Justice Guadalupe | ||
Rivera on the bench of the Eighth Court of Appeals; two years | ||
earlier, Chief Justice McClure also made history as the first woman | ||
ever appointed to lead that court; and | ||
WHEREAS, One of 14 courts of appeals in Texas, the Eighth | ||
Court of Appeals has appellate jurisdiction in civil and criminal | ||
cases that originate in the district and county courts of 17 West | ||
Texas counties; and | ||
WHEREAS, The achievements of Chief Justice Ann Crawford | ||
McClure, Justice Guadalupe Rivera, and Justice Yvonne Rodriguez | ||
serve as a source of inspiration for this and future generations of | ||
Texans alike; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby recognize the first all-women panel to preside | ||
over the Eighth Court of Appeals and extend to the members of that | ||
court sincere best wishes for continued success. | ||
