WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed | ||
cause for celebration, and Donnie Audrey Kite Cooper of Waco is | ||
marking this momentous milestone in her life on October 25, 2017; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Hollis, Oklahoma, in 1917 to Alvin A. Kite | ||
and Cora Edes Kite, Mrs. Cooper is the eldest of a brood that | ||
included her brothers and sisters Edes, Hardy, Kelsey, Garland, | ||
Oneta, Gale, and Dale; she is descended on her mother's side from | ||
Joseph San Pierre, one of the Old Three Hundred who received land | ||
grants in Stephen F. Austin's first Texas colony; and | ||
WHEREAS, The former Donnie Kite completed her bachelor's | ||
degree at Oklahoma State University, and on October 4, 1942, she | ||
married Victor Kenneth Cooper; they became the proud parents of | ||
four children, Marilyn, Ken, Randy, and Sarah; a school teacher and | ||
an artist, Mrs. Cooper volunteered extensively in her community and | ||
with local churches; she was a member of the Central Texas | ||
Watercolor Society and enjoyed presenting "chalk talks" to various | ||
church groups; currently, she belongs to First Baptist Church Waco; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cooper and her husband shared a fulfilling | ||
marriage of 71 years before his passing in 2013; today, she is the | ||
cherished matriarch of a family that has grown to include 13 | ||
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Donnie Cooper | ||
has witnessed a panorama of change during a historic century, and | ||
her 100th birthday offers a welcome opportunity for her loved ones | ||
to acknowledge the special place she holds in their hearts; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Donnie Audrey | ||
Kite Cooper on the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her | ||
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mrs. Cooper as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
