WHEREAS, Over the past 15 years, Minnie's Food Pantry has | ||
contributed greatly to the fight against hunger in North Texas and | ||
beyond; and | ||
WHEREAS, Minnie's Food Pantry was founded on April 1, 2008, | ||
by Dr. Cheryl Jackson, who named the organization in honor of her | ||
mother, the late Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing; since its inception, the | ||
Plano-based organization has expanded to 12 locations in Texas as | ||
well as to New York and Pennsylvania, and it has provided more than | ||
21 million healthy meals to families in need; the mission of | ||
Minnie's Food Pantry extends beyond alleviating hunger to the | ||
ultimate goal of helping families attain long-term food security | ||
and become self-sufficient; and | ||
WHEREAS, In addition to distributing meals, Minnie's Food | ||
Pantry solicits donations for Christmas gifts for children and | ||
seniors and for backpacks and other school supplies for area | ||
students; the organization mobilized to address the demands and | ||
special challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, including | ||
through the operation of a drive-through meal distribution service, | ||
and it also went above and beyond to meet residents' needs in the | ||
aftermath of the February 2021 winter storm; and | ||
WHEREAS, As one of the largest food pantries in North Texas, | ||
Minnie's Food Pantry has garnered recognition from a number of | ||
local organizations; it was named the Community Partner of the Year | ||
by the Plano Chamber of Commerce in 2018 and honored as the Ann | ||
Richards Community Partner of the Year by the Collin County | ||
Democratic Party in 2020; moreover, it holds a platinum rating, the | ||
highest level of recognition awarded by the charity evaluation | ||
service GuideStar; and | ||
WHEREAS, Minnie's Food Pantry has been a force for good | ||
during a time of significant adversity for many Texans, and all | ||
those affiliated with the organization are truly deserving of | ||
commendation for their efforts; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Minnie's Food Pantry and extend to | ||
Dr. Cheryl Jackson and to the organization's many dedicated | ||
volunteers sincere best wishes for continued success with their | ||
important work; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Minnie's Food Pantry as an expression of high regard by | ||
the Texas House of Representatives. |
