WHEREAS, Katasia Jordan, a participant in the Texas | ||
Legislative Internship Program (TLIP), has rendered outstanding | ||
service in the office of State Representative Helen Giddings during | ||
the 82nd Legislative Session; and | ||
WHEREAS, Established in 1990 and administered by the Mickey | ||
Leland Center on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern | ||
University, TLIP provides a unique opportunity for students from | ||
Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the Texas | ||
Legislature, in state agencies, and in local government offices; | ||
students receive academic credit for participating in the program, | ||
which combines study and research with supervised practical | ||
training; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Katasia Jordan graduated from | ||
high school in the top 10 percent of her class and went on to earn | ||
her bachelor's degree in mass communication at Tennessee State | ||
University, where she won the oratorical competition three years in | ||
a row; she subsequently earned her master's degree in community and | ||
regional planning from The University of Texas at Austin; while | ||
there, she received a prestigious Hogg Foundation Fellowship and | ||
conducted research on socioeconomic issues that affect low-income | ||
communities and communities of color; and | ||
WHEREAS, During her tenure as a legislative intern, | ||
Ms. Jordan helped maintain the representative's schedule and | ||
provided assistance in such policy areas as redistricting, health | ||
and human services, and housing; she plans to continue her | ||
education and pursue a career in public service; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Jordan has skillfully handled her duties in the | ||
office of Representative Giddings, and she may indeed reflect with | ||
pride on her contributions as a legislative intern; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commend Katasia Jordan for her dedication and | ||
exemplary work as a participant in the Texas Legislative Internship | ||
Program and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
