R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Lubbock are mourning the loss of
  admired community leader Charley James Wasson, who passed away on
  May 10, 2017, at the age of 41; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Jimmy and Shirley Wasson, Charley Wasson
  was born in Fritch on December 8, 1975; as a young man, he often
  worked with his grandparents on the family farm, and his character
  was further shaped by his participation in debate and the Boy
  Scouts, where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout; and
         WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor's degree in English and a
  master's degree in sports management and marketing from Texas Tech
  University, Mr. Wasson embarked on a career in cancer and hospice
  care; beginning in 1999, he worked for Covenant Health, first at the
  Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center and later as the
  executive director and CEO of Hospice of Lubbock and the Covenant
  palliative care program; in recognition of his outstanding efforts,
  he received the 2015 Values in Action Award for Justice from
  Covenant Health; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wasson contributed to his professional
  community as a member of the Texas and New Mexico Hospice
  Organization and the Texas Non-Profit Hospice Alliance boards; he
  also held leadership roles with a number of worthy civic groups,
  including Women's Protective Services; and
         WHEREAS, Beloved by many for his warmth, compassion, and good
  humor, Mr. Wasson was especially devoted to his nieces and nephews;
  he remained loyal all his life to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and
  his other interests included photography, travel, and movies; he
  was also a man of strong religious faith and a valued congregant of
  First United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Charley Wasson lived a caring and purposeful life,
  and although his journey on this earth ended far too soon, he leaves
  behind a record of service to others that will forever inspire all
  those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charley James
  Wasson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Kent Eagle; to his
  brother, Jamey Wasson, and his wife, Leslie; to his sisters, Kim
  Huot and her husband, John, Shelly Biggs and her husband, Rusty, Kay
  Lynn Clifford and her husband, Chris, Debbie Petersen and her
  husband, Eric, and Kathy Whittenberg and her husband, Kyle; to his
  nephews and nieces; and to his other relatives and many friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charley
  Wasson.
