| WHEREAS, Gonzalez Elementary School in Brownsville | ||
| celebrated its 30th anniversary during the 2016-2017 academic year; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, This notable campus is named for Mariano Gonzalez, a | ||
| beloved local bus driver who spent nearly three decades | ||
| transporting students to and from school and special events; | ||
| initially led by principal Neida Ruth Soto, the school opened its | ||
| doors in the fall of 1986, and the new building garnered praise for | ||
| its bright and cheerful interior; the school adopted purple, white, | ||
| and black as its official colors and the mustang as its mascot; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Elementary serves more than 800 | ||
| students in early education through fifth grade; under the expert | ||
| guidance of principal Dr. Timothy Cuff, the dedicated faculty and | ||
| staff work tirelessly to equip their students with the ability to | ||
| think independently and communicate effectively, along with other | ||
| essential academic skills; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance | ||
| to the future of our state, and for the past 30 years, Gonzalez | ||
| Elementary has helped its students to reach their full potential | ||
| and to become engaged and productive members of their community; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gonzalez | ||
| Elementary School and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff, | ||
| and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
