WHEREAS, Craig E. Ferrell, Jr., is retiring from the Houston | ||
Police Department on June 30, 2011, bringing to a close a notable | ||
career in law enforcement that has spanned more than three decades; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, A deputy director of the Houston Police Department, | ||
Mr. Ferrell leads the Legal Services unit and serves as | ||
administrative general counsel; over the years, he has been a | ||
senior advisor to four Houston police chiefs; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Ferrell has served, additionally, as the | ||
longtime general counsel for the Major Cities Chiefs Association, | ||
an organization of police chiefs and sheriffs representing the 70 | ||
largest law enforcement agencies in the United States and Canada; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has made a significant | ||
contribution to the Houston PD, as well as to law enforcement | ||
agencies across the country, by providing outstanding leadership | ||
and legal guidance on matters pertaining to internal policies and | ||
procedures, disciplinary action, mutual aid agreements, and civil | ||
litigation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Before he joined the Legal Services unit in 1990, | ||
Mr. Ferrell served in the Houston Police Department as a police | ||
officer, detective, and sergeant; and | ||
WHEREAS, Craig Ferrell's commitment to excellence and | ||
devotion to his work have greatly benefited the members of his | ||
community and his fellow police officers, and he may indeed reflect | ||
with pride on his many achievements; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Craig E. Ferrell, Jr., on the | ||
occasion of his retirement from the Houston Police Department and | ||
extend to him sincere appreciation for his outstanding public | ||
service; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Ferrell as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
