R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Members of The University of Texas of the Permian
  Basin Honors Program and Student Senate are visiting the State
  Capitol on January 31, 2013, to gain further insight into the
  workings of state government; and
         WHEREAS, Begun in the fall of 2006, the UTPB Honors Program
  includes a three-course sequence in which students learn about
  ideas, authors, and trends that have been especially influential in
  shaping the world of the 21st century; participants must meet high
  academic standards, and they represent some of the university's top
  achievers; alumni of the program have gone on to careers in a
  variety of fields, with most pursuing graduate degrees in medicine;
  and
         WHEREAS, The UTPB Student Senate represents the diverse needs
  and concerns of the university population and advocates for
  students' academic, intellectual, occupational, physical, and
  social well-being; a number of senate members are currently
  participating in the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership
  Institute's 28th Annual Texas Leadership Forum; and
         WHEREAS, Committed to learning about leadership, ethics, and
  public service, the accomplished men and women in these two
  programs have demonstrated the impressive talent and drive that
  will continue to serve them well beyond their days at UTPB, and it
  is indeed a pleasure to join in honoring these future leaders of the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby welcome members of The University of Texas of
  the Permian Basin Honors Program and Student Senate to the State
  Capitol and congratulate them on their outstanding academic and
  civic endeavors.
