R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Jerry L. Hickman on August 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Margaret "Scottie" Hickman,
  Jerry Hickman was born on October 7, 1942, in Dallas and grew up
  sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Becky, Charles, and
  Mikey; he graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went on to
  earn a bachelor's degree in sociology from Midwestern State
  University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; a veteran of
  the U.S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft
  carrier; and
         WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in sociology from
  Texas Tech University, Mr. Hickman started his career at the Texas
  Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor, and he went on to become a
  regional director, a position he held until retirement; he received
  recognition as an outstanding manager of the local TRC office; he
  also participated in numerous YMCA programs and helped
  underprivileged children and children with disabilities through
  the YMCA Office of Economic Opportunity; in his leisure time, he
  enjoyed running, hiking, and playing racquetball and golf; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hickman took great pride in his daughter,
  Shanna, and with the passing years, he had the privilege of seeing
  his family grow to include a beloved granddaughter, Emma; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his loyalty, his honesty, and his
  dedication to helping others, Jerry Hickman touched countless lives
  during his journey on this earth, and he will forever be remembered
  with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry L. Hickman and
  extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
  Hickman.
