WHEREAS, The heroic service of U.S. Air Force Technical | ||
Sergeant Placido Salazar during the Vietnam War was recognized by | ||
the citizens of his hometown, La Villa, at a ceremony on April 27, | ||
2013; and | ||
WHEREAS, On August 21, 1965, then Airman Salazar put his own | ||
life at risk to rescue two injured senior officers during a mortar | ||
attack on Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam; even though he had been | ||
wounded in the shelling, he first moved the men to safety in a | ||
bunker then returned under fire to protect important classified | ||
documents; Technical Sergeant Salazar was awarded the Bronze Star | ||
with Valor for his courageous actions, as well as a Purple Heart for | ||
the wounds he received that day; and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the air force in | ||
1976, after a notable 20 years in the armed forces; since that time, | ||
he has become a fierce advocate for this nation's veterans; in all | ||
his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife of 57 | ||
years, Maria de la Luz Cantu de Salazar, as well as that of his | ||
children, Placido, Rogelio, Enrique, Eduardo, Norma, and Javier; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The nation owes a profound debt of gratitude to | ||
those men and women who put themselves in harm's way to defend our | ||
freedom, and Technical Sergeant Placido Salazar has indeed proved | ||
himself worthy to stand in the front rank of America's warriors; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commend Technical Sergeant Placido Salazar for | ||
his heroism during the Vietnam War and extend to him sincere | ||
appreciation for his selfless efforts in this nation's behalf; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Technical Sergeant Salazar as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
