R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Nancy Hamilton was inducted into the Hall of Honor
  by the El Paso County Historical Society on November 3, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1961, the EPCHS has annually recognized
  individuals who have made significant contributions to El Paso
  County, and Mrs. Hamilton is most deserving of this important honor
  for her accomplishments as a writer, journalist, public relations
  professional, and local historian; and
         WHEREAS, The former Nancy Miller was born in El Paso on August
  22, 1929, to Harold and Corinne Miller; she graduated from Austin
  High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in journalism in
  1949 and a master's degree in English in 1954 from The University of
  Texas at El Paso; she married Ralph Hamilton in 1968, and became the
  proud stepmother of James and Jeannie; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton began her professional career in
  1950, working for the El Paso Times for nine years before joining
  the El Paso Independent School District; she then returned to
  journalism, writing for the El Paso Herald-Post, before going to
  work at UTEP in 1976, first in media relations and then as the
  associate director of Texas Western Press until her retirement in
  1990; she remained active as an editor of the press for the next
  decade, and in 1997 and 1998 she was a part-time lecturer in public
  relations for the UTEP Department of Communication; and
         WHEREAS, A prolific writer, Mrs. Hamilton wrote numerous
  features on local history, which led to the publication of a
  biography, Ben Dowell, El Paso's First Mayor, and UTEP: A Pictorial
  History of The University of Texas at El Paso; she also has
  contributed to the revised Handbook of Texas, coauthored several
  books on Texas and El Paso history, and served as editor for myriad
  historical publications; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her community, Mrs. Hamilton
  has served with a number of noteworthy groups, including the El Paso
  County Historical Commission and the Four Centuries '81 Commission;
  additionally, she has held leadership roles with such organizations
  as the UTEP Heritage Commission and the Pioneers Association of El
  Paso County; and
         WHEREAS, Nancy Hamilton has made many notable contributions
  to her community as she has worked to preserve and celebrate its
  rich history, and she has earned the lasting respect and
  appreciation of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Nancy Hamilton on her induction
  into the Hall of Honor by the El Paso County Historical Society and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Hamilton as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
