WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
of James Morgan McGraw of Jasper, who passed away on April 20, 2013, | ||
at the age of 89; and | ||
WHEREAS, "Slugger" McGraw was born in Newton in 1924 to | ||
Joseph Wiley and Mae Hext McGraw; he served his country in the | ||
United States Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS | ||
Enterprise in the Pacific; this brave Texan lost his leg in the war | ||
and was honored with the Purple Heart for his sacrifice; and | ||
WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. McGraw earned a master's degree | ||
from Stephen F. Austin State University and ran FFA programs in | ||
Texas public schools for more than three and a half decades; he also | ||
experienced the joy of becoming a parent, grandparent, and | ||
great-grandparent; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cherished by many, Mr. McGraw will be forever | ||
remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged to share | ||
in his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Morgan McGraw | ||
and extend sincere sympathy to Melody Holton, Paula Moon, and Anna | ||
Pipher; to his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; | ||
and to all others who mourn his passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James | ||
Morgan McGraw. | ||
