R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Reverend Matthew Robert Alix Sr., pastor of
  Greater True Vine Baptist Church in Houston, has served as a source
  of inspiration and spiritual guidance to countless individuals over
  the course of his 60 years in the ministry; and
         WHEREAS, Called to preach the gospel at the age of 17, Matthew
  Alix attended the National Baptist Sunday School and Baptist
  Training Union Congress in 1957; after graduating from Jack Yates
  High School, he earned bachelor and master of theology degrees from
  the Inter-Baptist Theological Center as well as a certification in
  mission training from Southern Bible College; for many years, he
  has shared his passion for Christian education and discipleship in
  his roles as a professor at Conroe College, as dean of Christian
  education in the Puritan District Association of Texas, and as an
  instructor at the National Baptist Congress; and
         WHEREAS, In 1971, Reverend Alix embarked on his career as a
  pastor at Yellowstone Boulevard Missionary Baptist Church, which he
  led for 18 years before assuming the pulpit of Greater True Vine
  Baptist Church; in addition to faithfully carrying out his duties
  to his congregation, he serves as moderator of the Puritan District
  Association of Texas and as a member of the Baptist Ministers
  Association of Houston and Vicinity; the chairman emeritus of the
  Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas' State Home Mission
  Board, he serves as spiritual adviser of the organization's Bible
  Band, as well as corresponding secretary of the National Missionary
  Baptist Convention of America; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, this esteemed clergyman is
  supported by his wife, Ruthie Jean, with whom he has shared 50
  years, and their five children, Arthur, Matthew, Varetta, Marsha,
  and Sharonda; he is further blessed with 13 grandchildren and 6
  great-grandchildren, and he has served as a caring mentor to a
  number of younger men in the ministry; and
         WHEREAS, For six decades, Reverend Alix has exemplified the
  highest standards of his vocation, and his efforts have earned him
  the lasting admiration and respect of many; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby warmly congratulate the Reverend Matthew Robert
  Alix Sr. on his 60 years of dedicated ministerial service and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for
  Reverend Alix as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
  Representatives.
