R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Fletcher William Ward Jr. of Freer on April 20, 2017, at
  the age of 89; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Fletcher and Ruby Ward, "Shorty" Ward was
  born on August 23, 1927, in Lamont, Florida; he served his nation as
  a member of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War and
  earned the Purple Heart; he went on to enjoy a rewarding career as a
  self-employed diesel mechanic, working with oil field companies for
  more than half a century; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Ward shared 47 years of marriage with his
  beloved wife, Maudie, and he took great pride in his four sons,
  Donald, James, Malcolm, and Keith, and six daughters, Melissa,
  Margo, Jessica, Patti, Ruby, and Priscilla; with the passing years,
  he had the pleasure of watching his family grow to include 19
  grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; in his leisure
  time, he counted fishing among his favorite pursuits; and
         WHEREAS, Although Shorty Ward will be deeply missed, he has
  left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will
  forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Fletcher William Ward Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Maudie Ward; to his sons, Donald
  Foote, James Foote and his wife, Xiomara, Malcolm Foote, and Keith
  Foote; to his daughters, Melissa Gordon and her husband, Greg,
  Margo Brone, Jessica Stuart and her husband, Mark, and Patti
  Measels and her husband, Dale; to his grandchildren and
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Shorty
  Ward.
