R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Evelyn Octavine Burns-Loftin of Galveston on April 6,
  2013, at the age of 97; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Burkeville, the former Evelyn Octavine was a
  graduate of Burkeville High School; she married Henry A. Burns, and
  together they were longtime residents of Groves and later retired
  to live in her hometown; she was employed with the Texas Company,
  which became Texaco, before resigning from work to focus on raising
  her children, James, Julia, and Karan; and
         WHEREAS, Widowed in 1985, she had the great fortune to find
  love a second time and exchanged vows with Hoy Loftin in 1987; the
  couple went on to share a wealth of happy memories until his death
  in 2000; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to spending time with her treasured
  family, including her beloved grandson, Jon, this generous Texan
  counted among her pastimes crocheting afghans and baby blankets;
  moreover, she delighted many with her wonderful cooking and baking,
  especially her famous gumbo; and
         WHEREAS, Evelyn Burns-Loftin enjoyed a life that was rich in
  the intangibles that matter most, and she will forever be
  remembered with deep affection by all those who held her dear; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Evelyn Octavine
  Burns-Loftin and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her
  family: to her children, James A. Burns and Julia A. Murphy and her
  husband, Jim; to her grandson, Jon Brandon Grimes; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Evelyn
  Octavine Burns-Loftin.
