WHEREAS, W. F. Strong and the Texas Standard radio program | ||
have achieved considerable success with their series of "Stories | ||
from Texas," which have now been collected in a book; and | ||
WHEREAS, Written and narrated by Mr. Strong and produced by | ||
Texas Standard, "Stories from Texas" is a series of radio vignettes | ||
about Texas history, culture, folklore, and literature; these | ||
popular spots have been broadcast on NPR since 2010, most recently | ||
on the Texas Standard's network of 30 stations across the state; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2018, Mr. Strong published 75 of the stories in a | ||
new book, Stories from Texas: Some of Them Are True; entries range | ||
from colorful tall tales to appreciations of Texas icons such as | ||
rattlesnakes, pickup trucks, and Whataburger, as well as accounts | ||
of larger-than-life Texans such as Judge Roy Bean, cattleman | ||
Charles Goodnight, and pianist Van Cliburn; and | ||
WHEREAS, Raised in South Texas, W. F. Strong is a Fulbright | ||
scholar and a professor of communication and culture at The | ||
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and he occasionally writes | ||
for Texas Highways magazine; Texas Standard is produced in Austin | ||
as a collaboration of KUT Austin, KERA North Texas, Houston Public | ||
Media, and Texas Public Radio San Antonio; and | ||
WHEREAS, These vivid and delightful tales of life in the Lone | ||
Star State continue to please countless readers and radio | ||
listeners, and Mr. Strong and the producers of Texas Standard are | ||
truly deserving of special recognition for their achievement; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commend W. F. Strong and Texas Standard for the | ||
production of the "Stories from Texas" book and radio series and | ||
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Strong and Texas Standard as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
