WHEREAS, Warren Seay is stepping down from the DeSoto | ||
Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 26, 2015, | ||
after six years of outstanding service to that body; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Seay first won a seat on the DeSoto ISD board in | ||
May 2009 at the age of 20, becoming the youngest elected official in | ||
Dallas County history, and he has served as president of the group | ||
since 2011; during his tenure on the board, he has played an | ||
instrumental role in creating the DeSoto Early College High School | ||
and the iSTEAM Academy, in securing a GEAR UP grant from the | ||
U.S. Department of Education, and in expanding early childhood | ||
education to full-day pre-K for all eligible students; he has also | ||
overseen the development of the International Baccalaureate | ||
Diploma Program and the renovation of DeSoto High School to provide | ||
improved facilities for the College and Career Academies; | ||
furthermore, he has skillfully balanced the budget while lowering | ||
the tax rate and increasing teacher pay; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Dallas County, Warren Seay attended | ||
Southern Methodist University, graduating summa cum laude in 2010 | ||
with a bachelor of arts in political science and returning to earn a | ||
juris doctor degree in 2013; during the course of his collegiate | ||
career, he published a chapter entitled "Human Rights in Egypt" in | ||
Human Rights and National Security Dilemmas and drafted a chapter | ||
on affirmative action for Contentious Social Issues; he was | ||
recognized as a Ray and Nancy Ann Hunt Leadership Scholar, a USA | ||
Today Academic All-American, an Institute for Responsible | ||
Citizenship Scholar, and SMU's Most Outstanding Senior Man, and he | ||
received the Harry S. Truman Scholarship; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Seay has continued to excel as an attorney with | ||
the Real Estate Finance Practice Group at Winstead PC, where he | ||
represents national and local banks and capital market lenders and | ||
borrowers and serves on the firm's diversity committee; he is an | ||
active member of the Dallas Bar Association and the JL Turner Legal | ||
Society, and he was named a 2015 Black Alumni of SMU History Maker | ||
and a Winstead's Juris Doctor Scholar in recognition of his myriad | ||
accomplishments; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through his visionary leadership and passionate | ||
commitment to the schoolchildren of DeSoto, this dynamic young | ||
Texan has contributed immeasurably to his community, and he has | ||
earned the respect and appreciation of countless area residents; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Warren Seay for his service on the DeSoto | ||
Independent School District Board of Trustees and extend to him | ||
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Seay as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
