R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Caroline Goodnight, a sophomore at Midway High
  School in Waco, is providing a positive example for others through
  her achievements as a candidate for the Congressional Award; and
         WHEREAS, The award was established in 1979 to recognize teens
  and young adults who challenge themselves while gaining life skills
  that are necessary for future success; applicants are required to
  set and attain goals in the areas of volunteer service, physical
  fitness, and personal development and to plan and carry out a
  project that tests their self-reliance and ability to adapt to an
  unfamiliar situation; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Goodnight is a two-time recipient of the Spirit
  of Midway Award, which honors students who complete 15 hours of
  community service in addition to participating in extracurricular
  activities; before setting her sights on the Congressional Award,
  she attended mission trips with her church and volunteered for a
  number of 5K races; and
         WHEREAS, This well-rounded young Texan is a member of the
  cross-country team at Midway, and her interest in running has led
  her to take part in several marathons, an activity she plans to
  continue as she satisfies the award's athletic requirements;
  moreover, she has committed to venturing out on a cycling trip in
  Palo Duro Canyon for her "expedition or exploration" project; and
         WHEREAS, Caroline Goodnight has proven herself to possess the
  talent, ambition, and determination that are shared by some of our
  nation's most promising young people, and she is acquiring valuable
  experience that will serve her well in the years to come; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Caroline Goodnight for her volunteer
  work and many accomplishments and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Goodnight as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
