WHEREAS, Arthur Skelton retired from the Chapel Hill | ||
Independent School District in December 2014, and the conclusion of | ||
his outstanding career provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on | ||
the contributions of this esteemed professional; and | ||
WHEREAS, "Butch" Skelton has a long-standing connection to | ||
Chapel Hill ISD, as his father and grandfather both served on the | ||
school board, and he and his siblings attended school in the | ||
district; following his high school graduation in 1955, he enrolled | ||
at East Texas State University and earned a bachelor's degree in | ||
business administration, and he later returned to the university | ||
and completed a master's degree in education; and | ||
WHEREAS, This veteran educator taught at Mineola High School | ||
before joining Chapel Hill ISD in 1986; initially a teacher, he | ||
later became a principal and most recently served the district as | ||
elementary assistant principal and as an administrator; during his | ||
tenure, he saw enrollment grow to upwards of 1,000 students, and the | ||
guidance he provided to the district's teachers helped them to | ||
excel in their educational mission; Chapel Hill campuses have | ||
consistently received high ratings in state testing, and the | ||
elementary school was recognized as part of the prestigious Blue | ||
Ribbon Schools Program by the U.S. Department of Education in 2009; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Butch Skelton helped provide Chapel | ||
Hill's young people with a strong foundation on which to build, and | ||
he may reflect with pride on his many achievements as he begins the | ||
next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Arthur Skelton on his retirement | ||
from the Chapel Hill Independent School District and extend to him | ||
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Skelton as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
