WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
death of Michael Jefferson Boone of Houston on February 14, 2013, at | ||
the age of 59; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Amarillo, Michael Boone grew up in Libya, | ||
Australia, and the United States; he studied electrical engineering | ||
at The University of Texas at Austin and played in the Longhorn | ||
Band, where he met his future wife, Susan; the pair married in 1978 | ||
and shared a fulfilling marriage that was further enriched by the | ||
addition of two daughters, Allison and Jessica; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Boone worked for Houston Lighting & Power, which | ||
later became CenterPoint Energy, for 34 years, serving as the | ||
director of Automated Meter System deployment; active in his | ||
profession, he was a member and chair of the Houston section of the | ||
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; in addition, he | ||
volunteered his expertise across the nation during power | ||
emergencies and led power restoration efforts in the Bellaire area | ||
after Hurricane Ike; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Boone further distinguished himself as | ||
president, treasurer, and section director of the Spring Shadows | ||
Civic Association and as president of Super Neighborhood North; | ||
moreover, he supported numerous charitable endeavors, including | ||
the United Way and March of Dimes, and he participated in the BP MS | ||
150 bike ride from Houston to Austin; and | ||
WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Boone delighted in the | ||
company of his large extended family and enjoyed discussing | ||
contemporary theology with his Sunday evening book study group; an | ||
avid traveler, he had been to all seven continents, most recently | ||
making a trip to Antarctica with his wife; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although the life of this esteemed Texan ended far | ||
too soon, memories of his kindness, intellectual curiosity, and | ||
devotion to his loved ones remain to comfort and inspire those he | ||
leaves behind; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Michael Jefferson | ||
Boone and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to | ||
his wife, Susan; to his daughters, Allison Brothers and her | ||
husband, Homer, and Jessica Murray and her husband, Ryan; to his | ||
grandsons, Ollen and Jefferson Brothers; to his siblings, Patricia | ||
Wilson, Martha Mattia, and John Boone; to his stepfather, Ralph | ||
Long; to his stepsiblings, Sue, Doug, Steve, and Kevin Long; and to | ||
his other relatives and many friends worldwide; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Michael | ||
Boone. |
