WHEREAS, Dorothy Louise Stewart is retiring from Christene C. | ||
Moss Elementary School in Fort Worth on June 7, 2011, drawing to a | ||
close a notable 55-year career as an educator; and | ||
WHEREAS, A Fort Worth native, Ms. Stewart grew up on Baptist | ||
Hill in the city's east side and attended George Washington Carver | ||
Elementary School, where she would later complete her student | ||
teaching; after graduating from Terrell High School in 1951, she | ||
attended Prairie View A&M University, earning her bachelor's and | ||
master's degrees in education; she went on to pursue art education | ||
studies at the University of North Texas and doctoral studies at the | ||
University of Colorado at Boulder; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Stewart worked with the Dallas Independent | ||
School District for one year before joining the Fort Worth ISD; | ||
through the decades, she has taught at a number of institutions, | ||
including Guinn, Moore, and Eastland Elementary Schools, and she | ||
has earned the admiration of students, parents, and fellow teachers | ||
alike for her caring, dedicated manner; today, she is the | ||
longest-tenured teacher in the district; and | ||
WHEREAS, Also active in her community of faith, Ms. Stewart | ||
is a valued member of Carter Metropolitan CME Church, where she was | ||
honored by the congregation as Woman of the Year in 2009; she | ||
further contributes her expertise to benefit others as president of | ||
the Maids and Matrons charitable organization; and | ||
WHEREAS, Known for her unwavering commitment to her students, | ||
Dorothy Stewart has touched the lives of countless youth, and she | ||
may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Dorothy Louise Stewart on her | ||
outstanding career as an educator with the Fort Worth Independent | ||
School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for a very | ||
happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Stewart as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
