WHEREAS, Marjorie H. Avant of Austin, former journal clerk of | ||
the Texas House of Representatives, passed away on November 18, | ||
2011, at the age of 87; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Sacramento on April 10, 1924, to Ruth and Guy | ||
Holcomb, the former Marjorie Holcomb may have been a native of | ||
California, but she was a Texan at heart; her family moved to the | ||
Lone Star State when she was a young child, and she grew up in Austin | ||
and graduated from Austin High School; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Avant went on to work for the Texas Legislature | ||
following her graduation; she served the citizens of her adopted | ||
state with dedication during a notable career that spanned more | ||
than 30 years, and she retired as journal clerk of the House of | ||
Representatives in 1987; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Avant also met her husband, former state | ||
representative Robert Avant, Sr., while working with the House, and | ||
through the years, the couple were blessed with two sons, Robert | ||
Avant, Jr., and David Avant; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in her community of faith, Mrs. Avant was a | ||
member of First Baptist Church of Austin, where she served her | ||
congregation as a deacon and member of the history committee; and | ||
WHEREAS, Marjorie Avant built a life that was rich in family, | ||
friends, and accomplishments, and her legacy lives on in the hearts | ||
of the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
Marjorie H. Avant and extend deepest sympathy to her sons, Robert | ||
Avant, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, and David Avant, and to her other | ||
relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Marjorie H. | ||
Avant. |
