R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Members of the 1990 girls' basketball team from
Calallen High School in Corpus Christi celebrated the 25th
anniversary of their state championship victory in March 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Lady Wildcats entered the 1990 University
Interscholastic League 4A state playoffs with only one loss on the
year, and the team advanced through the early rounds of the
postseason with decisive victories over Uvalde and Edcouch-Elsa
  High Schools; and
WHEREAS, In the regional semifinals, Calallen dominated the
team from Kerrville Tivy High School, notching a 57-33 win to
continue its thrilling run; with a berth in the state tournament on
the line in the regional final, the Lady Wildcats proved up to the
task once again, besting Hays High School by one point in a tightly
  contested game; and
WHEREAS, Calallen found itself in another close battle when
it matched up against Dallas Lincoln High School in the state
semifinals at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin; the teams fought to
a stalemate at the end of regulation, but the Lady Wildcats refused
to let their season come to an end as they came away with the 68-62
overtime win that set the stage for a title game showdown against
Waco Midway High School in the 4A final; inspired by the support of
their fervent fans, the Corpus Christi players secured a 46-39
triumph to claim the state championship and close out the year with
  a 39-1 record; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of the 1989-1990 season, the Lady
Wildcats relied on outstanding performances from each member of the
team: Hope Hodges, Kim Crowley, Amy Acuff, Shana Brown, Stacy
Sherman, Ayanna Walden, Leslie Vrana, Tamara Walden, Lisa Salinas,
Valerie Clarke, Kelly Cerny, and Paige DuBois; these determined
athletes were guided by legendary coach Leta Andrews and assistant
coach Mary Lee Stockton, with additional support provided by
managers Judith Bryan and Jane Byrne and mascot Miranda Wagner; and
WHEREAS, In winning the 1990 state title, the Calallen Lady
Wildcats became a source of great pride to the Corpus Christi
community, and the 25th anniversary of that unforgettable season is
indeed a milestone worthy of commemoration; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the 1990 Calallen
High School girls' basketball team on the 25th anniversary of their
