WHEREAS, Citizens of North Richland Hills are celebrating the | ||
70th anniversary of their city's founding in 2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, Located in present-day Tarrant County, the North | ||
Richland Hills area was first settled in the 1840s, and it remained | ||
a rural farming and ranching community for more than a century; in | ||
1952, a resident named Clarence Jones began to subdivide his | ||
268-acre dairy farm into a suburban neighborhood; the new | ||
homeowners in the area formed the North Richland Hills Civic League | ||
and initially intended to join the neighboring city of Richland | ||
Hills; instead, the residents elected to establish their own | ||
community on April 25, 1953, by which time there were over 180 homes | ||
on what was once the Jones Farm; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1955, North Richland Hills began annexing | ||
adjacent neighborhoods, and its population grew rapidly during the | ||
latter half of the 20th century; today, it is home to more than | ||
70,000 people, making it the fourth-largest city in Tarrant County; | ||
a vibrant suburban community, the city benefits from its close | ||
proximity to Fort Worth, as well as from being within commuting | ||
distance of Dallas; and | ||
WHEREAS, Residents of North Richland Hills enjoy a strong and | ||
reliable local infrastructure and an array of city services, | ||
including an expansive 800-acre park system; other popular | ||
attractions in the city include NRH2O Family Water Park, the first | ||
municipally owned water park in the State of Texas, as well as Iron | ||
Horse Golf Course, the Richland Tennis Center, and the North | ||
Richland Hills Library; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the course of the past seven decades, North | ||
Richland Hills has built a well-deserved reputation as a desirable | ||
place to live and work, and its residents may take pride in the | ||
place they call home; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the 70th anniversary of the City of | ||
North Richland Hills and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes | ||
for the future. |
