WHEREAS, The observance of Father's Day on June 18, 2023, | ||
provides a welcome opportunity for all Texans to express their | ||
gratitude to the fathers and father figures who have enriched their | ||
lives and shaped their characters; and | ||
WHEREAS, Father's Day was officially recognized in 1966, when | ||
President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential | ||
proclamation honoring fathers and designating the third Sunday in | ||
June as Father's Day; it became a permanent national holiday in | ||
1972, when President Richard Nixon signed it into law; and | ||
WHEREAS, Fathers serve as role models, protectors, | ||
providers, and friends; above all, they strive to instill in their | ||
children enduring values and a sure sense of right and wrong; and | ||
WHEREAS, Being a good father means providing the structure, | ||
guidance, and love that children need to flourish, and on Father's | ||
Day, we honor those who have stepped forward and taken on this | ||
challenging yet rewarding responsibility; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate Father's Day 2023 and pay tribute to | ||
the caring men who have dedicated their lives to building strong | ||
families and to inspiring their children to reach their full | ||
potential. | ||
