| WHEREAS, Devin DeLapp is graduating as salutatorian of the | ||
| senior class of West Texas High School on May 31, 2013; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only | ||
| intellect and aptitude but also four years of dedication to the | ||
| highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, | ||
| Ms. DeLapp has demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide | ||
| range of subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours she has | ||
| devoted to her studies are myriad; in addition to maintaining a 4.0 | ||
| grade point average, she has completed 15 credit hours with Frank | ||
| Phillips College; this dynamic young woman has also participated in | ||
| University Interscholastic League events, qualifying for state in | ||
| poetry interpretation and for regionals in persuasive speaking and | ||
| earning All-Star Cast recognition at the 2012-2013 UIL One-Act Play | ||
| state meet; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. DeLapp has further distinguished herself | ||
| through numerous sporting activities, including cheerleading, | ||
| basketball, softball, and track; for her outstanding athletic | ||
| achievement, the National Cheerleaders Association named her an | ||
| All-American Cheerleader three times and a Top All-American | ||
| Cheerleader in 2011; moreover, she has been honored as a Borger News | ||
| Herald Athlete of the Week and as a Globe-News Scholar Athlete, been | ||
| selected for both softball and volleyball First Team All-District, | ||
| and been a top regionals finalist in track for three consecutive | ||
| years; demonstrating notable leadership, Ms. DeLapp has served as | ||
| president of the student council, vice president and president of | ||
| the National Honor Society, and captain of the cheerleading squad; | ||
| following her graduation, she plans to study mass communication and | ||
| business at the University of Oklahoma and hopes to one day attend | ||
| law school; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Renea and Dale Founds | ||
| and Lee DeLapp, Devin DeLapp has earned the respect and admiration | ||
| of teachers and classmates alike, and her exceptional scholastic | ||
| ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have opened the | ||
| way to limitless opportunities for this outstanding young Texan; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Devin DeLapp | ||
| on being named salutatorian of the West Texas High School Class of | ||
| 2013 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success as | ||
| she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. DeLapp as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
