R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A strong work ethic and a commitment to academic |
|
excellence have earned Elizabeth F. Springs of Kingsville a coveted |
|
position in the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars program; and |
|
WHEREAS, This interactive online learning initiative offers |
|
outstanding high school juniors a unique experience in which they |
|
explore math, science, engineering, and computer science concepts |
|
through web-based lessons during the school year; a number of |
|
students are then selected for a one-week summer workshop at the |
|
NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, where they undertake a team |
|
project on Mars exploration, tour the space center facilities, |
|
participate in hands-on engineering activities, and interact with |
|
astronauts, engineers, and other NASA experts; and |
|
WHEREAS, A student at Santa Gertrudis Academy High School, |
|
Ms. Springs also studies at Texas A&M University--Kingsville and |
|
works as a child-care provider at King Ranch; she is a dedicated |
|
student who has received awards in biology, chemistry, physics, |
|
English, and Spanish, and she has served her peers as class |
|
president and as president of the National Honor Society and 4-H |
|
chapters; in addition, she has competed and placed in University |
|
Interscholastic League competitions in speech and debate, and she |
|
founded a school book club and serves as president of the Bluebonnet |
|
Drama Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Springs is a talented athlete as well, |
|
distinguishing herself as a member of the basketball, volleyball, |
|
and golf teams and also serving as a cheerleader; she is active in |
|
the First United Methodist Church of Kingsville as a youth group |
|
participant and lay reader, and she is involved in Key Club and the |
|
FFA; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her participation in this prestigious |
|
program, Elizabeth Springs is gaining valuable knowledge and |
|
experience that will be of great benefit in meeting her education |
|
and career goals, and she is a source of pride to her family and |
|
school; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Elizabeth F. |
|
Springs on her participation in the NASA High School Aerospace |
|
Scholars program and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Springs as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
