WHEREAS, The Honorable Randy Daniel stepped down as mayor of | ||
Athens on November 20, 2012, to accept an opportunity to fill an | ||
unexpired term as justice of the peace for Henderson County | ||
Precinct 1; and | ||
WHEREAS, First elected to lead the city in 2005, Mayor Daniel | ||
became known for his straightforward approach to governance, and | ||
voters subsequently returned him to office three times; his record | ||
of accomplishments includes upgrades to firefighting equipment and | ||
progress toward downtown revitalization; and | ||
WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has long demonstrated a | ||
commitment to civic duty; he is a former member of the boards of | ||
both the Athens Municipal Water Authority and the Athens | ||
Independent School District, which he served as president three | ||
times; moreover, he has contributed to his community as president | ||
of the Jaycees and as director of the Kiwanis Club; and | ||
WHEREAS, Randy Daniel earned his bachelor's degree from | ||
Stephen F. Austin State University, where he studied political | ||
science and history; in 1977, he embarked on a career as a public | ||
relations representative for the Trinity Valley Electric | ||
Cooperative; his tenure with TVEC went on to span 35 years, during | ||
which time he served as chair of the political action committee for | ||
rural electric cooperatives in Texas and as a member of the board of | ||
directors of the Texas Member Services Association; he was | ||
recognized for his outstanding involvement with that organization | ||
with the TMSA Lifetime Achievement Award; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Daniel enjoys the | ||
love and support of his family, including his wife, Barbara, and his | ||
daughter, Laurie; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through his dedication and guidance, Randy Daniel | ||
has helped to make Athens an even better place in which to live and | ||
work, and he may indeed reflect with pride on the positive impact he | ||
has had on the city; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Randy Daniel for his exemplary service as | ||
mayor of Athens and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Judge Daniel as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
