R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Georgetown High School girls' basketball coach
  Rhonda Farney is receiving well-deserved recognition with her
  induction into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of
  Fame on May 18, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Farney has compiled a total of 974 wins in the
  course of a 38-year career that has been highlighted by impressive
  achievements, including the 4A state championship in 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Lometa, Rhonda Farney graduated from
  Howard Payne University in 1975 at the age of 19 and began coaching
  high school basketball that same year at Goldthwaite; though she
  was just slightly older than many of her players, she quickly earned
  their loyalty and respect; she went on to lead the team to 10
  district titles while winning at least 20 games per season, and she
  continued her outstanding work at Ozona High School, where she
  coached for two years; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Farney arrived at Georgetown High School in
  1988, and over the course of her distinguished tenure with the Lady
  Eagles, she has guided her team to 681 victories, 6 trips to the
  state tournament, and 4 appearances in the title contest, including
  the 2013 championship victory; and
         WHEREAS, Inspired by the small-town values that she grew up
  with, Coach Farney emphasizes hard work and consistency, and she
  helps create a close-knit team by finding ways to foster
  camaraderie among her players; and
         WHEREAS, An influential member of her profession, Coach
  Farney was the first woman to serve as president of the Texas
  Association of Basketball Coaches, and she held the same post with
  the Texas Girls Coaches Association; her many honors include state
  and regional Coach of the Year awards as well as numerous
  all-star-game coaching assignments; and
         WHEREAS, With her exceptional ability to teach and motivate,
  Rhonda Farney has made a positive difference in the lives of
  hundreds of young athletes and helped Georgetown High School to
  realize great success on the hardwood, and she has earned a place
  among the legendary basketball coaches of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Rhonda Farney on her induction into
  the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Farney as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
