| WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
| meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
| of Oscar Garza of Mission, who passed away on December 22, 2016, at | ||
| the age of 59; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Oscar Garza was born to Hermenegildo and Concepción | ||
| Garza on August 12, 1957, in Gilroy, California; the youngest of | ||
| nine children, he spent his formative years in McFarland, | ||
| California, working in the fields with his parents and siblings; | ||
| his family moved to Texas when he was 15, and he attended Mission | ||
| High School, where he was an accomplished athlete; throughout his | ||
| time in school, he helped his father on the ranch, and during the | ||
| summers, he worked as a longshoreman in Galveston; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Garza graduated in 1976 and went on to find | ||
| success as a rancher and businessman; his company, Real Estate | ||
| Investments, operated branches in Mission and McAllen, and he also | ||
| owned the Cabrito Market in Palmview; active in his community, he | ||
| served as president of the Hidalgo County Irrigation District No. 6 | ||
| Board of Directors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Garza was a | ||
| devoted husband to his wife of 34 years, Norie, and he took great | ||
| pride in their four children, Carina, Aissa, Oscar, and Alyna, and | ||
| their three grandsons, Josiah, Isai, and Cristian; in his spare | ||
| time, Mr. Garza enjoyed visiting the Rio Grande, where he would | ||
| watch the sun rise and reflect with gratitude on his many blessings; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Admired for his dedication to his family, his | ||
| youthful spirit, and his strong work ethic, Oscar Garza treasured | ||
| the richness that each day brought, and he will long be remembered | ||
| with deep affection by all who had the good fortune to know him; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Oscar Garza and extend | ||
| sincere condolences to his family and many friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Oscar | ||
| Garza. | ||
