WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Diane | ||
DeVooght Key of Austin, who passed away on February 26, 2017, at the | ||
age of 66; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Paul and Verena DeVooght, the former | ||
Diane DeVooght was born on March 23, 1950, in Marquette, Michigan, | ||
and grew up with her sister, Ann, and her brother, Duane; when she | ||
was three years old, she moved with her family to Austin; she | ||
attended St. Mary's Academy and went on to earn a bachelor's degree | ||
in education from Texas State University-San Marcos in 1978; and | ||
WHEREAS, On July 16, 1977, she was joined in matrimony to John | ||
Key at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Austin; during a rewarding | ||
marriage that spanned nearly four decades, the couple became the | ||
proud parents of a daughter, Colleen, and with the passing years, | ||
they had the pleasure of welcoming into their family four | ||
grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick, Daniel, and Rita; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Key served as a troop | ||
leader for Girl Scout Troop No. 317 and as a volunteer at Barrington | ||
Elementary School, a role that eventually led to her employment as a | ||
teacher's aide in charge of the school's computer lab; she was also | ||
active in the pro-life movement, giving generously of her time and | ||
energies to the Texas Alliance for Life and other such groups; | ||
moreover, she was an avid gardener and a member of the Austin | ||
Daylily Society, and she participated in the Capital 10K race every | ||
year; and | ||
WHEREAS, Admired for her strength of character, her kind and | ||
generous nature, and her quick wit, Diane Key led a life that was | ||
rich in the intangibles that matter most, and she holds a treasured | ||
place in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Diane DeVooght Key | ||
and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family and her | ||
many friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Diane Key. |
