WHEREAS, A life dedicated to the service of his nation has | ||
drawn to a close with the death of retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant | ||
Colonel Gus E. Myers on January 25, 2021, at the age of 83; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Windsor, Illinois, on August 16, 1937, to | ||
Harry and Mary Myers, Gus Myers served in the U.S. Navy for four | ||
years before completing a degree in physics at Eastern Illinois | ||
University; he subsequently joined the U.S. Air Force and trained | ||
as a pilot at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Myers served a tour of duty in Vietnam, after | ||
which he continued his education at the University of Arizona, | ||
where he earned a master's degree in nuclear engineering; he went on | ||
to teach at the U.S. Air Force Academy before retiring from the air | ||
force in 1982; in civilian life, he worked as director of risk | ||
management services at the University of North Texas until his | ||
retirement in December 2005; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his | ||
nation, Gus Myers earned the lasting respect and admiration of all | ||
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lieutenant Colonel | ||
Gus E. Myers and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his | ||
family: to his wife, Kathryn Myers; to his children, Christopher | ||
Myers and his wife, Randi, Heidi Collins, and Stacey Paul and her | ||
husband, Scott; to his seven grandchildren and three | ||
great-grandsons; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gus E. | ||
Myers. | ||
