R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Riazul Mia retired as assistant city manager of
  Laredo on April 28, 2023, drawing to a close 27 years of public
  service to the community; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Mia worked for the city as director of the
  Environmental Services Department before transitioning to the role
  of utilities director, a post he held for five years; he was
  promoted to assistant city manager in the summer of 2020; and
         WHEREAS, Among many significant achievements throughout his
  tenure, Mr. Mia collaborated with the council and management to
  resolve severe flooding problems in the city; he also led several
  projects to provide or improve water utilities in rapidly
  developing areas of Laredo, and he was the project manager and
  contract developer for a major public-private partnership for the
  expansion of Bartlett Avenue; and
         WHEREAS, Riazul Mia's dedication, expertise, and leadership
  have greatly benefited the citizens of Laredo and earned him the
  respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect
  with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting
  chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Riazul Mia on his retirement as
  assistant city manager of Laredo and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Mia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
