WHEREAS, Organizing members of the Bosque River Valley | ||
Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are gathering | ||
on February 2, 2013, for the inaugural meeting of their group; and | ||
WHEREAS, Established in 1890, the Daughters of the American | ||
Revolution is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving | ||
American history, promoting patriotism, and advancing education | ||
for all; the DAR puts these principles into practice through a wide | ||
variety of activities, such as assisting veterans, providing | ||
scholarships, and supporting underserved schools; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charter members of the Bosque River Valley Chapter | ||
of the DAR selected the name of their group because of the river's | ||
significance to early settlers in the area; beginning in the | ||
mid-1800s, pioneer communities sprang up along the banks of the | ||
Bosque, and the abundant resources associated with the river proved | ||
essential to their survival; and | ||
WHEREAS, More than 30 women have joined together to organize | ||
the Bosque River Valley Chapter, among them the founding officers, | ||
regent Sue Moore Fielden; vice-regent Phyllis Alford Olson; | ||
chaplain Therissa Crabtree Young; recording secretary Ruth Ann | ||
Nelson Crawford; corresponding secretary MaryLynn Murphey Haynes; | ||
treasurer Ann Groom Lenz; registrar Naomi Young Nabors; historian | ||
Marilyn Maxwell Holland; and librarian Betty Urban Johannes; and | ||
WHEREAS, By establishing a local chapter of the DAR, the | ||
members of this group have demonstrated a notable commitment to | ||
conserving American history, and their organization will serve as a | ||
vital source for the transmission of knowledge and tradition for | ||
generations to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the founding of the Bosque River | ||
Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and | ||
extend to the chapter's members sincere best wishes for success; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
