R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of eight-year head
  coach Gary Blair, the Texas A&M University women's basketball team
  made history by winning its first-ever NCAA national championship
  on April 5, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Texas A&M finished the season with an impressive
  33-5 record, the most wins in program history, including 13 wins and
  only 3 defeats in Big 12 competition; in the NCAA Division I
  Tournament, the Aggies beat number one seed Baylor in the Elite
  Eight in Dallas and number one seed Stanford in the Final Four in
  Indianapolis on their way to defeating Notre Dame in the national
  championship game by a score of 76-70; and
         WHEREAS, Several of the players achieved prestigious honors
  for their efforts during the 2010-2011 season; senior Danielle
  Adams became the first Texas A&M player to be named as an Associated
  Press first team All-American and was also selected as a member of
  the 2011 NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball
  Team; in addition, senior Sydney Colson received an AP All-American
  honorable mention, and junior Tyra White was recognized with an
  honorable mention on the State Farm Coaches' All-America team; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Blair has won numerous coaching awards in the
  course of his career and has become one of the most successful and
  highly respected Division I coaches in the women's game today; he
  completely turned around the Aggie women's basketball program
  following his appointment as head coach in 2003, taking the team to
  a record six straight NCAA tournaments and now capturing the 2011
  national championship; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas A&M coaching staff also includes associate
  head coaches Vic Schaefer and Kelly Bond and assistant coach
  Johnnie Harris; along with Coach Blair, they have represented
  themselves and Texas A&M University admirably and with great
  distinction and have inspired the members of the women's basketball
  team to conduct themselves with honor and integrity, both on and off
  the court; and
         WHEREAS, In claiming the much-coveted championship trophy,
  the Aggie women's basketball team has brought positive national
  attention to Texas A&M University and to the Lone Star State as a
  whole while also earning further admiration for women's athletics
  at the university level and beyond; and
         WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication to excellence
  demonstrated by the 2010-2011 women's basketball team and its
  coaches has led to a history-making year that will forever be
  remembered and celebrated by Aggie students, alumni, educators, and
  fans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor head coach Gary Blair and the members of
  the Texas A&M University women's basketball team on their
  outstanding achievement of winning the NCAA Division I national
  championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Blair and the team as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
