WHEREAS, A 70th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of | ||
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Dorothy and Elmer Hix | ||
of Gun Barrel City celebrated this joyous milestone in their | ||
marriage on August 8, 2012; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Mary Etta and Owen B. Jones, the | ||
former Dorothy Jones was living in Windom when she met Elmer Hix, | ||
the son of Mary Jane and Nathan L. Hix, at a skating rink; they were | ||
joined in matrimony in Bonham in 1942; and | ||
WHEREAS, After the wedding, Mr. Hix enlisted in the United | ||
States Army Air Corps, and he was trained in radar; at the | ||
conclusion of World War II, he and his wife settled in Dallas, and | ||
he went to work for Magnolia Petroleum Company, later Mobil Oil, | ||
where his job included overseeing maintenance of the lighted | ||
Pegasus logo, an iconic symbol in the downtown Dallas skyline; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hix was employed by Sanger-Harris and was also | ||
a homemaker; in addition to Dallas, the couple lived in Irving, | ||
Cedar Creek Lake, and Mabank before coming to Gun Barrel City, and | ||
Mr. Hix worked as an electrician and supervisor after retiring from | ||
his previous career in 1982; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. and Mrs. Hix became the parents | ||
of two beloved daughters, Patricia and Linda, and welcomed into | ||
their family two sons-in-law, Paul Myers and Lynn Mullin, three | ||
granddaughters and their spouses, Shelly Pirkle and her husband, | ||
David, Stephanie Jordan and her husband, James, and Jennifer | ||
Carlile and her husband, Christopher, and four | ||
great-grandchildren, Cody, Kaycee, Zachariah, and Bella; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hix have enjoyed seven decades of | ||
abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an | ||
exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting | ||
commitment; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Dorothy and Elmer Hix on their 70th | ||
wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for | ||
continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hix as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
