WHEREAS, The Honorable Melvin Simons retired as justice of | ||
the peace for Precinct 4 in Parker County on December 31, 2010, | ||
having served with distinction for 12 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Judge Simons was first elected to his position in | ||
1998, and he was repeatedly returned to office by the voters of his | ||
district; as he concluded his service, he was the oldest sitting | ||
justice of the peace in Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, This patriotic American was a member of the U.S. | ||
Marines during World War II and saw duty in the battles for Peleliu | ||
and Okinawa; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Simons enjoys the | ||
love and support of his wife, Billye, and his children, Patti | ||
Clinton, Sylvia Simons, and Terry Simons; Judge Simons and his wife | ||
are active members of Hilltop Baptist Church, having been part of | ||
the congregation since 1972; and | ||
WHEREAS, The dedication and compassion demonstrated by Judge | ||
Simons have positively influenced the lives of numerous | ||
individuals, particularly the many young people who appeared before | ||
his court; his accomplishments have made Parker County an even | ||
better place to live and work, and he is greatly appreciated by the | ||
residents that he has served so well; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Melvin Simons on his | ||
retirement as justice of the peace for Precinct 4 of Parker County | ||
and extend to him sincere appreciation for his exemplary public | ||
service; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Judge Simons as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
