WHEREAS, Countless residents of Temple will cherish their | ||
memories of widely admired businessman and civic leader Eldo | ||
Johnson, who died on March 4, 2011, at the age of 81; and | ||
WHEREAS, Eldo Johnson was born in Temple on November 16, | ||
1929, to Quitney William and Annie Elizabeth Crawford Johnson; he | ||
was a star athlete at Temple High School, playing on the Wildcats | ||
football team and serving as a four-year starter on the basketball | ||
team; he went on to attend Texas Tech University on a football | ||
scholarship; and | ||
WHEREAS, After living briefly in Fort Worth and San Antonio, | ||
Mr. Johnson returned to his hometown and worked in the insurance | ||
business, retiring in 1994; he remained passionately involved in | ||
local athletics, from youth baseball to Temple College basketball, | ||
which his son, Kirby, has coached since 1987; he attended countless | ||
games over the years, providing encouragement to players of all | ||
ages; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson also gave generously of his time and | ||
energy in such roles as board president of the Temple Independent | ||
School District and president of the Temple Chamber of Commerce and | ||
the Temple Kiwanis Club; moreover, he was a longtime member of the | ||
First United Methodist Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, Eldo Johnson lived a caring and purposeful life | ||
dedicated to his family and his fellow citizens, and he will forever | ||
be remembered with deep affection by all those who held him dear; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eldo Johnson and | ||
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his | ||
sons, Brad Johnson, Kirby Johnson and his wife, Kim, Kyle Johnson | ||
and his wife, Amy, and Joel Johnson and his wife, Shari; to his | ||
grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Courtney, Tyler, Tanner, Taylor, | ||
Daniel, Nick, Ben, Grace, and Jacob Johnson and Tara Campbell; to | ||
his great-grandsons, Kade Sanchez, Jay Johnson, Carson Campbell, | ||
and Carter Johnson; to his brother, Elbert Johnson, and his wife, | ||
Francene; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eldo | ||
Johnson. | ||
