WHEREAS, Kathleen and James Rodriguez concluded their | ||
decade-long tenure as co-head coaches of The University of Texas at | ||
El Paso softball team in 2013, and it is indeed fitting to recognize | ||
their outstanding accomplishments; and | ||
WHEREAS, This dedicated husband and wife duo founded the UTEP | ||
softball program in 2003, and the Miners quickly developed into a | ||
competitive team in the years that followed, posting their first | ||
winning record in 2006-2007; the next year, the team reached the | ||
Conference USA tournament semifinals, and it advanced to the title | ||
game in 2009; over the years, Kathleen and James Rodriguez | ||
recruited a number of exceptional athletes to play for the team, | ||
including 2010 NCAA Woman of the Year finalist Stacie Townsend and | ||
2012 national home run leader Camilla Carrera, who also set an NCAA | ||
record for home runs per at-bat; and | ||
WHEREAS, Exceptional ambassadors for the school, the couple | ||
had 19 players selected to the Conference USA Honor Roll during the | ||
2012-2013 season, and their team continually led the UTEP athletic | ||
department in community service hours; and | ||
WHEREAS, Kathleen and James Rodriguez have earned the | ||
respect, admiration, and affection of the Miners' players and fans, | ||
and their contributions to the UTEP community will continue to be | ||
appreciated for many years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Kathleen and James Rodriguez for their | ||
service as co-head coaches of The University of Texas at El Paso | ||
softball team and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Kathleen and James Rodriguez as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
