R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Galveston Historical Foundation is sponsoring
  the 50th annual Dickens on the Strand event from December 1-3, 2023;
  and
         WHEREAS, One of the state's most enduringly popular holiday
  traditions, Dickens on the Strand was established to celebrate
  Galveston's Victorian architecture, and it played a significant
  role in the recognition of the Strand as a National Historic
  Landmark; and
         WHEREAS, The street festival appeals to a wide range of
  visitors and area residents with its family programming and its
  presentation of live entertainment on four stages; strolling
  carolers, roving musicians, bagpipers, jugglers, and others in
  Victorian garb help evoke the sights and sounds of Charles Dickens'
  stories, most notably the beloved A Christmas Carol; this year,
  children can explore a new addition, Tiny Tim's Play Land; among the
  special offerings are a cricket match and play performances; and
         WHEREAS, From rolling carts and street stalls, vendors peddle
  food, drink, and a wide variety of wares, including holiday
  decorations, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, and
  gift items; costumed revelers enjoy parades, contests, and even bed
  races, as well as encounters with characters in 19th-century garb,
  among them actors portraying Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Father
  Christmas, and Dickens himself; many descendants of Charles Dickens
  will be in attendance; and
         WHEREAS, Dickens on the Strand has been a highlight of the
  Galveston calendar for half a century, bringing the community
  together and drawing people from across Texas and beyond, and it is
  truly a pleasure to join in celebrating this significant milestone
  in the history of the festival; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 50th annual
  Dickens on the Strand and extend sincere best wishes for continued
  success to all those involved in the event.
