WHEREAS, For nearly 25 years, Tom Curlee of Portland, Texas, | ||
has provided guidance and support to the Port Industries of Corpus | ||
Christi, and this commitment is indeed worthy of special | ||
recognition; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Edna, Mr. Curlee was the first member of | ||
his family to attend college, receiving a music and later a tennis | ||
scholarship to attend Victoria College, then transferring to Texas | ||
A&I University in Kingsville, where he earned his bachelor of | ||
science degree in engineering; he began his career with the Allis | ||
Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, eventually | ||
transferring to Beaumont; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Curlee started his 30-year tenure with the | ||
energy firm CPL in 1964, and over the years, he held many positions | ||
in the company, including district marketing manager of the Rice | ||
Belt district, assistant vice president of engineering, and | ||
executive director of the Rates and Regulatory Affairs Department; | ||
in 1988, he joined the Board of Trade, Port of Corpus Christi, which | ||
later became the Port Industries of Corpus Christi; although he | ||
retired from CPL in 1994, he has continued his service with the PICC | ||
as a consultant through 2013; and | ||
WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan is highly involved in the | ||
community where he and his wife of 54 years, Nancy, have lived for | ||
nearly four decades; the couple are active members of the First | ||
Baptist Church, where Mr. Curlee is a deacon; he has served as | ||
president of the Jaycees in Victoria, the Kiwanis Clubs in Bay City | ||
and Portland, and the North Shore Country Club Board of Directors | ||
and as vice president of the Paisano Chapter of the Girl Scouts of | ||
America; moreover, he helped charter the San Patricio County | ||
Economic Development Corporation, serving two years as its | ||
president, and he is currently vice president of the Portland | ||
Community Complex Corporation; he additionally shares his time and | ||
talents as a member of the boards of the San Patricio Rural Rail | ||
District, Bay Area Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, Coastal Bend | ||
Bays and Estuaries Program, AEP Retirees, and ACIT; and | ||
WHEREAS, Port Industries of Corpus Christi has gained | ||
immeasurably from Mr. Curlee's dedication and vision over the last | ||
quarter-century, and it is a pleasure to acknowledge his ongoing | ||
contributions to the Corpus Christi area; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Tom Curlee on his years of service to the | ||
Port Industries of Corpus Christi and extend to him sincere best | ||
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Curlee as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
