R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Cedar Park are celebrating the
  50th anniversary of their city's incorporation on February 24,
  2023, with the Friday Night Fever Family Dance; and
         WHEREAS, Located in southwestern Williamson County, Cedar
  Park was originally called Running Brushy for a heavy-flowing
  spring in the area; the city's roots date back to 1871, when George
  and Harriet Cluck led a cattle drive up the Chisolm Trail; two years
  later, the Clucks bought the land that included Running Brushy
  Spring, and their ranch quickly became the center of a growing
  community; a post office was authorized for the settlement in
  February 1874, and when the Austin and Northwestern Railroad came
  through in 1882, the town's name was changed to Brueggerhoff in
  honor of a railroad official; Emmett Cluck, the son of George and
  Harriet Cluck, gave the community its current name of Cedar Park in
  1887, and shortly thereafter, a school, a church building, and a
  landscaped park were established in the area; and
         WHEREAS, From the 1890s to around 1970, Cedar Park benefited
  from the production of limestone and cedar fence posts; due to the
  proximity of the nearby city of Austin, the town's population
  increased from 125 people to more than 3,000 between 1970 and 1980;
  on February 24, 1973, the citizens of Cedar Park voted to officially
  incorporate, and in the years since, the city has experienced rapid
  commercial and residential growth; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Cedar Park is a vibrant and prosperous
  community of over 77,000 citizens, and it benefits from the
  leadership of Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin and the city council;
  residents are able to enjoy its close proximity to the Capital City,
  its acres of beautiful parkland, and its many other attractions,
  including the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, which is home to two
  professional sports teams and hosts more than 130 events a year; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Cedar Park may indeed take great
  pride in their rich heritage as they come together to celebrate this
  significant milestone in their history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the City of
  Cedar Park and extend to its residents sincere best wishes for the
  future.
