| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 52l to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 52l. The legislature by general law may provide that a | ||
| religious organization that leases property for use as an actual | ||
| place of religious worship is entitled to a refund from each | ||
| political subdivision that taxes the property of the ad valorem | ||
| taxes imposed on the property by that political subdivision and | ||
| collected from the owner of the property. | ||
| SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
| submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017. | ||
| The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
| proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | ||
| legislature to provide for the refund of ad valorem taxes imposed on | ||
| property leased to a religious organization for use as an actual | ||
| place of religious worship." | ||
