CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District
  has benefited greatly from the actions of director of food service
  Pamela Holcomb, who was instrumental in BCISD elementary schools
  earning a HealthierUS School Challenge Gold Award of Distinction
  from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and
         WHEREAS, A voluntary national certification initiative, the
  HealthierUS School Challenge is designed to encourage schools to
  improve the quality of food served in school cafeterias and provide
  nutrition education as well as to promote physical education and
  other opportunities for physical activity for students; and
         WHEREAS, BCISD elementary schools Burnet, Shady Grove,
  Bertram, and R.J. Richey met the strict criteria laid out by the
  USDA Food and Nutrition Services for the program and earned the
  highest commendation possible; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Holcomb has led the Burnet CISD Food Service
  Department since 2000; in addition to this award from the USDA, the
  district received exemplary recognition from the Texas Department
  of Agriculture's Coordinated Review Effort during her tenure; a
  1989 graduate of Texas Tech University, she worked at La Porte ISD
  before moving to Burnet; and
         WHEREAS, Through her outstanding guidance and commitment to
  the well-being of BCISD students, Ms. Holcomb is furthering the
  fight against childhood obesity in Texas and helping young people
  establish healthy habits that will benefit them for the rest of
  their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Pamela Holcomb on her role in Burnet CISD's
  receipt of a Gold Award of Distinction as part of the HealthierUS
  School Challenge and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Holcomb as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
